The 11-20mm f/2.8 Di III-A RXD lens for Fujifilm APS-C cameras that Tamron announced that it was developing last February is finally coming to market at the end of May for $829.

The lens, which is very likely a port of the the 11-20mm f/2.8 Di III-A RXD for Sony E-mount that has been on the market since 2021, is billed as a fast-aperture ultra-wide zoom lens that is both small yet balanced that offers a mix of features that work well in a variety of shooting situations.

The 11-20mm f/2.8 is constructed of 12 elements arranged into 10 groups, two of which are Glass Molded Aspherical lenses that are “precisely located” to assure high resolution across an image, from edge to edge. It also incorporates one XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) and two LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements that Tamron says help the lens produce sharp images with and correct for optical aberrations .

Tamron adds that it also features the BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating that it claims suppresses ghosting and flare. The lens has an aperture range of f/2.8 through f/16 via a seven-bladed diaphragm and features a front filter size of 67mm.

The autofocus system is driven by Tamron’s RXD stepping motor, which the company says results in a very fast and accurate focusing experience that is also quiet, making it usable for both photos and video production.

Part of the lens’ selling point is the fact that it has a minimum focusing distance of 5.9 inches at 11mm with a maximum magnification ration of 1:4. Tamron says that photographers can produce unique perspectives thanks to the combination of close focusing and wide angle.

“At the 11mm setting, the lens has an astonishing maximum magnification ratio of 1:4 that enables wide-angle macro photography that parlays the perspective unique to ultra wide-angle lenses while also leveraging the expressive bokeh provided by the fast, maximum aperture of this lens,” the company says.

The lens features some level of weather resistance and has seals located at the lens mount and “other critical locations” that it says deters the infiltration of moisture. The front of the lens is coated with fluorine as well.
