The Keks KM02 OLED Light Meter is Small, Light, and Feature Rich
Keks Camera has released the KM02 OLED Light Meter, an update from a previous model that reduces its size and weight and allows it to better blend into the classic cameras it helps support.
The KM02 replaces the EM01 (which is no longer available) and inherits all of its functionality, adds more features, improves battery life, and fits it all into a smaller and lighter overall package.
The Keks KM02 is designed to be easy to operate, has two metering modes, and has three display options. Users are able to switch between aperture and shutter priority mode with one click of a button. It supports continuous and single metering modes, the former which will refresh data every 0.6 seconds while the latter will meter every time a button is pressed. Finally, it supports three display modes: standard, detailed, and inverted (the latter is for use on cameras like the Rollei 35).
The light meter has an ISO value range of between six and 102,400 and the shutter speed can be set to between 30 seconds and 1/8000 second.
Keks says that three other major features separate it from the pack and make it a “game changer” for film photographers. Firstly, the KM02’s aperture, shutter speed, and ISO stops are all customizable and can be adjusted to fit any camera or lens. It allows the maximum and minimum aperture as well as the shutter speed to be set according and saved for up to three separate camera and lens combinations.
It is also able to showcase full, half, and third stops which allows it to give more accurate readings. In addition, Keks says the KM02 boasts an exposure compensation feature which allows the user to manually adjust the exposure from -3EV to +3EV in 1/3 increments.
The KM02 uses a VEML7700 high accuracy ambient light 16-bit digital resolution sensor.
“The upgraded software ensures higher accuracy and better reliability, guaranteeing a more accurate reading,” Keks says. “Moreover, this combined with a 50mm lens view, ensures a good balance between average and selective metering.”
The compact light meter ships with three differently sized aluminum shoe mounts and five different shoe mount positions to allow photographers to mount the light meter with a bias to the left or right and allows it to be fitted to virtually any camera. It is also available in either black or chrome so that it matches basically any camera.
The light meter has a 500mAh battery that is 10% better than its predecessor and allows for it to operate continuously for up to 21 hours. It can be recharged via USB-C.
There are several options available for similar light meters at similar prices — such as the Hedeco Lime Two or the AstrHori AH-M1 — but the combination and wealth of features do make the KM02 stand out.
