Beirut Explosion Captured in Wedding Photo Shoot

A bride was posing for a wedding photo shoot in Beirut, Lebanon, yesterday when a massive explosion occurred in the city’s port. Wedding photographer Mahmoud Nakib managed to capture the blast’s shockwave on camera.

Nakib was photographing the bride in a square about 0.75 miles (1.2km) away from the port when the blast occurred. In the 30-second video above, you can see the shockwave suddenly whip up the bride’s wedding dress and knock the camera around. When Nakib turns the camera back toward the square, the bride can be seen hurrying to shelter in a nearby building.

The blast, which leveled sections of the capital city, killed at least 100 people, injured at least 4,000, and left up to 300,000 homeless. Lebanese authorities are blaming the catastrophe on 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate stored at a warehouse since 2014.
