Photographer Captures Gorgeous Bird Photos in Her Own Backyard

During the spring and summer of 2021, I did not do a lot of photography in places other than my backyard. I have always spent some time photographing birds in my yard, with my favorite subject being the blue jay.

Photographing Birds in the Water from a Custom Floating Hide

I’ve been enjoying bird photography from my custom-made floating hide for 3 years now. Being in the water with a variety of birds from waterfowl to wading birds and even Black Skimmers flying by my head has been an amazing experience. It becomes a much more connecting experience both to the natural areas I am in as well as my subject.

I Photograph Birds in My Backyard by Setting Up Stages

Last year I joined my local photography club. The club holds regular competitions and I was amazed by the quality of the bird and wildlife photographs. I've never been much of a natural history photographer. So it's not surprising that my own photographs did very poorly in competitions.

Bald Eagle Steals GoPro and Takes it for a Joy Ride

Environmental researcher Matt Beedle was using a GoPro camera to capture some shots of bald eagles a couple of years ago and ended up with some unexpected and viral footage: while the camera was rolling, an eagle decided to snatch it up and take it up for some aerial shots.

Traffic Camera Captures Closeup of a ‘Speeding’ Bird

Forget wildlife cameras, when it comes to capturing cool photos of birds, it seems all we need are traffic cams. Just a few months after a CCTV camera in Canada captured these shots of a snowy owl in flight, a traffic cam in the UK repeated the feat with a 'speeding' blue tit.

Seagull Grabs GoPro and Helps Tourist Capture Aerial Shots of the Coastline

If you'd like to shoot some aerial images but don't have a drone or balloon handy, see if you can get a seagull to help you out. German Martin Lozano tourist was visiting the Cies Islands off the coast of Spain recently when a seagull grabbed his GoPro, flew away, shot some breathtaking views of the coastline, and then flew back to return the camera. Everything was captured in the 1-minute video above.

Photographers Flocking to See Eagle Owl That Lands On People’s Heads

Bird photographers are reportedly flocking to the town of Noordeinde in The Netherlands after the discovery of a large and friendly European eagle owl that enjoys landing on people's heads. The video above shows the 6-pound bird swooping down from a rooftop and landing gracefully on a woman's head in the midst of delighted photographers.

Touching Photos of a Family’s Special Bond with the Magpie They Rescued

In late 2013, Australian photographer Cameron Bloom's family found an abandoned magpie chick on the ground in Newport, New South Wales. They took the bird in, learned how to raise it, and it quickly became a part of their family and daily life.

As they raised the magpie, which they named "Penguin," Bloom began to document the experience through Instagram. Tens of thousands of people around the world are now following along as he shares touching photos that show the closeness of the bird and family.

Rare Parrot Gets a Little Too Friendly with Wildlife Photographer

This post could also be titled "How Not to Photograph Endangered Male Animals." The video above was uploaded to the Web by the BBC back in 2009 and shows photographer and zoologist Mark Carwardine finding and photographing a rare parrot in a New Zealand forest. Unfortunately for Carwardine -- and hilariously for the rest of us -- he gets closer to the bird than he was planning to.
