In 30 Years- Your memories are my responsibility

As we get older one fact holds true, our memory fades.  Looking back over my last 33 years my memory softens the details of my life events.  Without the stories of the past that seem to exaggerate over time, my memory would probably be blank.  The clearest and sharpest of all memories are those that were captured in pictures.  Looking through a photo album of my past sharpens the facts and provides detail to the stories that haven’t been told or exaggerated over their existence.  Why does this matter?

As a photographer I have great responsibility to capture the events in a person’s life that they will want to remember in the future.  People’s memories are my responsibility.  Major events will take place in an individuals life that create an identity of who they will be, how much they feel valued, and how they will change.  Looking back helps people make changes for the future.  What if we didn’t have anything to look back on?

A few months back this idea of “What a person remembers about their wedding is a result of how I (the photographer) see the event”.  With this kind of statement comes great responsibility.  Every Bride and Groom will see their wedding from my eyes!  The details of their story are a result of my feelings, my emotion, my experience, my training, my passion, my vision, my equipment, and my perspective.  Will a bad attitude that I have affect a person’s memory of their wedding day?  What details will they want to remember?  What memory do they want to have in 30 years?  These questions are very important to ask yourself as a bride, a mother of a bride, or as a photographer.

In 30 years my work will be more valuable then on the day it was taken.  On your wedding day my goal must not be for a successful day, but for a successful generation.  It’s a charge I take very seriously and with great pride.  You have a 2^nd chance to make a first impression in this busy world, but you don’t have a 2^nd chance to create a lifetime of memories for a bride on her wedding day.
