If you did not have the opportunity to attend this event you missed out at one of the most elegant bridal shows to ever be hosted in the Grand Rapids Area.  With a Flute of Sparkling Juice in the hands of every guest and a warm welcome from the Lowell Chamber of Commerce our brides started the show on the right foot.  It was nice to see that in the first 15 minutes we had more brides than we had in 2007 for the entire show.  The Grand Volute is the perfect venue for a Bridal Show of its size.  We were happy to meet brides from across the country.  We had the pleasure of welcoming a number of new clients to the Modern Photographics family!

Wow, we’re gearing up for a fun filled weekend.  We hope that you’ll be joining us for all the festivities.

Marceline and Cameron had their engagement portraits taken a while back and, for some reason, they were missed on my blogging list.  Thankfully they noticed and let us know so that we could get right on it.  (Sorry.)

Their engagement portraits started out here in Lowell at the studio, then they took off and went to the beach for a few more.  Congratulations on your engagement, we can’t wait to photograph your wedding.

Josh and Leslie decided not to see each other before the wedding, instead they wanted to have some fun and creative pictures. These were pictures before the wedding, they took some planning, but ended up being extremely fun and ‘calming’ for the bride and groom. (Fun for us too.)

The wedding was AMAZING.

And they rode off into the sunset together on his Moped. Not really, but still just as fun.

Their wedding was at IMPACT Church where Josh is the Youth Pastor. Their reception was held at The Royal Heritage conference center in Ionia.

Congratulations Josh and Leslie, may God bless your marriage. We know he will.

Amanda and Brian’s wedding couldn’t be more perfect.  She spent the morning getting ready at Design One Salon in Cascade.  Design One did a fabulous job on Amanda’s hair and makeup.  After a quick stop at the Third Reformed Church on Michigan Avenue to get ready Amanda and Brian traveled separately to the Blue Bridge to meet for the first time on their wedding day.

Amanda and Brian choose a wonderful location to meet each other on their wedding day.  This happens to be the bridge that Brian proposed to Amanda on.  Here, right before seeing each other, they were able to pose for a quick portrait, both in the same picture, but not yet seeing each other.

The flowers were designed by Modern Day Floral.  They were incredible!

We stopped of at Aquinas College and a train yard for a couple of photographs before ending up at the Grand Volute Ballrooms for their reception.  Like every event I have ever attended the Grand Volute went above and beyond to make Amanda and Brian’s event perfect.  Great job to the staff at the Grand Volute.
John rocked the house for Rick Reuther’s Music Host Productions and kept the dance floor hopping!

Thanks also to Affordable Limousine.  Always on time with great service and clean limos.

Melvin & Amber were married a few weeks ago at Kyper College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  It was a very fun and relaxing day for us and the bridal party.  Starting with a hair appointment in the early part of the day, then a break for everyone until it was time to get ready and go to meet the guys downtown by the tire swing.  Melvin and Amber enjoyed minute to just be by themselves before the rest of the day started.

The Bridal Party was super and slightly crazy, so that made for some fun and exciting photo opportunities.  Then it was time to go to Kyper College for a gorgeous wedding ceremony and the reception. After all the reception fun we were invited to the ‘after party’ at Founders Brewery where we all had a great time hanging out.

Thanks Melvin and Amber for inviting us to join you for your wedding, we had a great time. May God bless your marriage for many, many years to come.

When a couple walks into your studio and tells you about their day that includes Fire Trucks… What are you supposed to do.  I wanted to grovel and beg, but they didn’t let me.  My firefighter background helped me on this one.  This incredible couple was married in Fowler Michigan of all places.  Helping me photograph this event were my two interns from the Summer.  The ceremony was a beautiful catholic mass.  I had plenty of time to relax and concentrate on capturing the heart of this couple.

then it was on to the downtown bar, a great watering hole for a bridal party that needed to be watered down.  From dancing on the Pool table to rocking out to 80’s music I knew we were in for a action packed day.  The party loaded a bus from Affordable Limousine out of Grand Rapids and headed to Looking Glass Fire Department.  By this time most of the adult beverage consumption was in full force and the groomsmen had totally let their guard down.  Carefully we added the axes and turnout gear to make many unique wedding portraits that the couple will love.

Being I dreamed of a wedding like this since the day they asked about the Fire Truck, I was ready and willing to be as creative as the couple allowed.  Even throwing the Bride over the Grooms shoulder wasn’t too much to ask.

After about an hour of fun, the bridal party continued on to the Dewitt Conference and Banquet center. It was host to 300 of the couples family and friends.  The foood was filling, and the dancing wild.  A great time was had by all.

5 Things to consider
when researching wedding photographers
before you ever call one

The Internet today makes finding a professional photographer more difficult than ever. The reason being that there is more photographers to choose from. 10 years ago you only had word of mouth, the yellow pages, or bridal shows. Today you have over 440,000 web sites to look at just by typing in “Wedding Planning sites”.

What is a Bride to do?

When it comes to wedding photography 5 important considerations come to mind before you ever goggle or yahoo your first photographer.

#1- You will only know what you want in a wedding photographer after the wedding photos are already taken…
BUT ITS USUALLY TOO LATE!
Take the time to talk to your friends, mom, or co-workers not to find out who they used, but what their experience was with wedding photography in general. What kind of wedding album did they have? How many photo’s did they buy? Who did they give pictures too?
The more questions you ask the more of a “bigger picture” you will have. Most people will not have a problem telling you what they didn’t like about their wedding photography.

#2- How much do you value photography?
THE TRUE VALUE OF YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY WILL COME OUT WHEN THE PHOTOGRAPHER MESSES UP

Every one has a different personal experience with portrait photography. If you grew up only having your school portrait taken and mom displayed the 4×5 to everyone, then you probably don’t know what its like to appreciate 20×24 inch canvas prints.

The value you place on your wedding photography should be personal. What kind of legacy do you want to hand your children in 50 years? Wedding Photography is the one type of portraits that has lasted years.

#3- What do you not like about yourself in pictures?
IF YOU DON’T TELL YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER WHAT YOU DON’T LIKE YOU MIGHT HAVE TO LOOK AT IT THE REST OF YOUR LIFE

Be honest with yourself. If you don’t like your profile, identify that early and feel comfortable telling you Professional wedding photographer that you don’t like your profile. The more honest you are the better chance 50% of your portraits won’t be your profile.

#4 Be Real with yourself?
DONT PRETEND TO BE SOMEONE YOUR NOT, BECAUSE THAT SOMEONE WONT SHOW UP IN YOUR
WEDDING PORTRAITS

If you pretend that you want to feel like a model on your wedding day, but have never been one before. You are probably going to not look like one on your wedding day.

If you are comfortable being you, than do than plan on doing that on your wedding day and the portraits will look fabulous. There is always time after the wedding to get back in your dress and have a session with the photographer with you as a model

#5 Set your priorities early
YOU GET NOT SO BEAUTIFUL PHOTOS OF A GORGOUS WEDDING WHEN YOU CUT THE PHOTOGRAPHY BUDGET FOR CHAIR COVERS

What do you want most from your wedding day
Happy Bride or Happy Guests
If the limo is a priority to you, then book the limo, but don’t expect the money you saved on your photographer to be a good investment.
Most girls plan their weddings since they were little girls, so take the time to prioritize what is most important on or after your wedding day.

In the end you will only have a few things
remaining from your wedding day.
Portraits and a Groom
You pick which one you want to spend the rest of your life with.
