“Getting Dirty” Engagement Portraits – Grand Rapids Michigan

Tale of two sessions in one.  Alex, Carolyn and I had a blast during this session.  Everything was set for an elegant, perfect, and clean session within the Amway Grand hotel.  Things started that way, but ended totally on a muddy note.  We all wanted outdoor photos (I can want certain photos as a photographer) and would be disappointed if we didn’t at least try.  So after a beautiful dancing filled indoor session, we took things outside to the garden at Calvin College.  With rain and mud we made unique, one of a kind, artistic photos that reflect just how goofy this couple is.  Silliness was an understatement!

Engagement Portraits – Downtown Grand Rapids

This couple met us downtown Grand Rapids for their engagement session.  We wandered through the streets finding areas that I have never used before.  It was a great practice session for their upcoming Labor Day weekend wedding in northern Michigan.

This couple won a free wedding package that we partnered with 105.3 Hot FM to give away during the premier of “Bride Wars” this past fall.  They are getting married in a small church (completely restored) in the St. Louis Michigan area.  I originally was not able to do their event do to another wedding, but when that wedding moved their wedding date Samantha and Kyle didn’t think twice about having us photograph their wedding.  I am excited that they took advantage of the free wedding package!

Free Engagement Portraits

This couple took advantage of our Free Engagement Sessions.  Modern Photographics offers Free Engagement Sessions for all new couples thru June 30th, 2009.  It doesn’t matter if you have a photographer for your wedding or not.  Normally this is a $100 session.  This session includes in-studio session 4×5 image for the paper with outdoor add-on for only $50.  We do require a $100 print deposit at the time of booking your session.  We also allow up to two outfit changes for this session.

What something more.  Our Relationship study valued at $200 is also available to add-on for only $100.  This session includes on location within 30 miles of the studio.  Includes Downtown Grand Rapids or Lansing.

Twin Baby Portraits – 10 Month Pictures

These cute twins are now ten months and growing fast. She is standing on her own, and he is lifting himself up while holding on to things. Their personalities are really starting to shine. By 11 months I am sure their parents will have their house locked down. Its going to be one showing the other everything new this world has to offer. Which one do you think will be the leader?

Winter Wedding Photographs

What photographs can be taken during the winter?
What benefits are their to having a winter wedding?

Winter Wedding Photo Ideas

1. Use the snow to make a white background

2. If it is not snowing have the bridal party throw the snow

3.  Use the Brides cape to highlight her face.

4.  Use off camera flash outside for winter wedding portraits.

5.  Take the bridal party outside- They will surprise you!

Winter weddings can be as fun as summer weddings.  Its usually not as hot, and the bridal party usually has just as much fun.

Benefits to having a winter wedding

1. 1.  Cost- Michigan is not a popular winter wedding location.  Our beaches are covered with ice and the flowers are covered by snow.  Many wedding venues have discounted pricing for off season weddings.  This can mean thousands of dollars in savings.  Most wedding vendors have discounts for January through March weddings.
2. 2.  Greater number of options-  The demand for wedding resources is less during the winter season.  This means you have a greater number of resources available to you.
3. 3.  Not competing with your friends for guests-  Your guest will be more likely to attend your wedding, because there is less competition for their weekends in the winter.
