The Value of Family Portraits

Kara’s Story-
Kara was born with a very critical heart condition. Not knowing what the future held for her and her family, capturing this chapter became so much more important. Kara had her first open heart surgery just days after this photo was taken. Her family realized something very important after the surgery. Her chest was no longer like it was when she was born. The value of the portraits increased immensely. They were the last images of her God given unaltered body. The scars will heal over time, but now the family has images of her.
If you would like to follow Kara’s story you can follow it by becoming a friend of her Dad- Brian Calley- http://www.facebook.com/briancalley

“Off with your hat, as the flag goes by!
And let the heart have its say;
You’re man enough for a tear in your eye
That you will not wipe away.”
~Henry Cuyler Bunner

that a man lay down his life for his friends (John 15:13)

Brandon’s Day off
Every once in awhile a person needs to stop and reflect on whats going on around them. Today I found that time while taking a morning off and hanging out with Dan Johnson from Dan Johnson Photography. I realized that this time was much needed to pause and get my bearings. Dan and I spent the morning with Scott from Scott’s Sport Fishing Charters. God blessed us with great weather (cold and windy) and plenty of fish (1 each). I say it was a blessing because the lack of fish made us be patient and trust our guide. Very similar to today’s business world. I sometimes have to be patient with our guides. Dan and I were able to talk about life and photography. It is nice to know that there is another photographer who has the same values about business and faith. I really appreciate my wife’s support to take the day off. I also appreciate all the friends that think I am crazy for working so hard. Thanks for all your support.

U of M Survival Flight lands on Michigan Ave

Ems Expo became a little more exciting today when U of M Survival Flight landed on Michigan Ave just outside the Devos Place. Survival Flight will be on display for all the Emergency Medical Service providers during the 35th Annual Ems Expo. The Expo continues thru Sunday April 19th, 2009. I have the pleasure of photographing the event. A great mix of EMS and photography.

How to use Twitter for your business.

If you get to Ada Michigan you have to check out Marilyn’s malts & more!. This cute little family run business was a great break today for lunch. When I arrived in the parking lot I had to make a choice between Chinese, Subway, and Marilyn’s. I was happy I picked the business that looked like a local treasure. I was greeted with the warm friendly smile of Marilyn herself! It was great to see how a husband and wife can do what they enjoy doing. The little guy playing on the floor looked at home as if it was his Grand Parents behind the counter. I was so proud to support such a local business. In today’s economy its more important than ever to support the local businesses than the mega chain stores. Don’t get me wrong.. most of them are owned by local people that equally support their communities, but if I have a choice Marilyn & Dick will get my dollars. Thanks for the great service!

Malts make a great family portrait prop!
