Grand Volute Ballrooms

Posted by emulnix

Wow! Brandon and I had the honor of attending last night’s private black tie event at the brand new Grand Volute Ballrooms here in Lowell. Every detail and every inch of the ballrooms was carefully considered and crafted. From the chandeliers to the hand woven carpet, the air wall to the bar cooling system, every minute detail, seen and unseen. There are plenty of enamoring words to describe it’s unbelievable perfection, some chosen ones overheard throughout the night were ‘Gorgeous’, ‘Beautiful’, ‘Amazing’, ‘Superb’, ‘Awesome’, ‘Wow’, ‘Phenomenal’, but none of them compare to actually seeing first hand.

As the President of the West Michigan Wedding Association, preferred photographer, and friend of Mr. Kent McKay, owner of the Grand Volute Ballrooms, it was Brandon’s honor to be asked to do the very first toast. Brandon captured the guests attention and delivered a toast with graceful finesse, to which everyone raised their champagne glasses with a Salut!

Here we are all dressed up in front of the Grand Staircase in the foyer. It was simply a beautiful evening.

Not without Grandma

Posted by emulnix

After posting the last couple of projects about the most beautiful generation it was brought to my attention that I didn’t include someone. Here is a photograph of my Grandma. She is not at Fountain View, but still has a precious place in my family’s heart.

Almost a ‘Tween’

Posted by emulnix
Little Miss ‘M’ is only 8, but she’s almost a ‘tween’. She was a blast to photograph and apparently has been telling all her friends about how much fun her portrait session was.

“Just because I can’t Remember doesn’t mean I want to be forgotten”
Today I finished up my project at Fountain View. This one was the hardest. The memory care unit is where the patients with severe dementia and Alzheimer’s reside. The saddest part for me was the three residents we couldn’t photograph.
I warn you.. You might need Kleenex.

The Birthday Boy

Posted by emulnix
This little guy LOVED his chocolate cake. When his dad took away the cake there were HUGE crocodile tears, he was very, very sad.

A Friendly Reminder

There seems to be confusion concerning Copyright Law and Photographs. I figured I’d attempt to clear it up.

If you want to read all the ‘technical stuff’ about Copyright Law go here. But I’ll spare you the technical words and confusion and give you a synopsis of what Copyright means to us.

On the back of every picture we print is a sticker like the one above. If you were to take this picture to a local printer (Meijer, Walgreens, WalMart, etc.) they would not make re-prints for you.

Unfortunately, with the development of high quality Scanners and Photo Quality Printers, a professionally created and copyrighted image has never been easier to copy in the comfort of your own home. We have to trust that our clients understand the Copyright Law and that they will not copy our prints anywhere.

What exactly do you mean when you say Copying? (glad you asked) Copying means reproducing the work in any material form. This can include storing on disks or making copies. It is not necessary for the whole of a work to be reproduced – the reproduction of a substantial part will suffice. Purchasing a print does not transfer the Copyright.

Basically, all this means that any photography by Modern Photographics is protected from copying, scanning or reproduction under the Federal Copyright Act of 1976.

We usually find out when a copy has been made, either online (facebook, myspace, blogger, etc) or in print, and we handle each copyright infringement as we see necessary.

I hope I was able to clear that up.

But, just in case:

Copyright

All Modern Photographics© images are copyrighted work and may not be reproduced or copied in any manner without permission from the artist. Please don’t steal any images from us.

A Lowell Wrestler

A return trip back to Fountain View only proved more moving than the first. Today my goal was to capture individual portraits of the residents.

The residents were incredible to photograph. They joked about how they looked, they tried turning me off with a remote, they even told on each other if one didn’t get their photograph yet.

Upon returning to the studio, I knew I was in for a treat. I didn’t realize my eyes would fill with tears as I brought to life the images taken during the day. Instead of posting many of them here I am going to have an event with the residence themselves. We have one more session with residents before we can schedule this special event.

Enjoy….
