About Us
Established in 1976 by Roger VanVleck in Lowell, Michigan. Modern Photographics is located on the beautiful Flat River. As a full service photography studio, we have had the experience of almost any type of photography there is. Weddings, seniors, and family portraits are what Modern Photographics has built its business on. Sure there is the occasional aerial photography project, or the Ionia Free Fair 4H animals, or even a passport photo or two, but people portraits is what we enjoy the most.
In 2006 Modern Photographics was reborn with new ownership and an extensive face lift that left nothing untouched. Brandon and Emily Mulnix made the investment into Modern Photographics because of the impact it had in their lives. Brandon arrived at Modern in 2004 with about 5 years under his belt and an education from Lansing Community College.
Brandon, Emily, and Karen can be found at the studio Monday thru Friday. You can also find Brandon there most weekends as well. We do our best to work with our clients to meet the high demands of their schedules.

 Brandon MulnixThe Man. The Myth. The Photographer.
Hi I am Brandon Mulnix, I guess you could call me in charge around here, but that's not always true. Together with my wife, Emily, and daughter, Lily, we own my dream. From the time I was 17, I wanted to own a photography studio and here it is! We took ownership in 2006 and together have made it our home. I am the one who takes most of the photographs around here. I have made it a point to keep this business about my love for photography, not my living. I am also a Paramedic field supervisor for a rural EMS department. EMS pays the bills so I can continue photographing what I love. If I could do anything in the world I would be photographing for mission organizations around the world. I feel so blessed and honored to be doing what I love to do that I always take any opportunity to give back.  Emily MulnixWears Many Hats
Hi, I'm Emily, I'm Brandons wife. What I do around Modern Photographics is design, touch-ups, print orders, proof and order albums, and whatever else is needed when things get busy. I also assist Brandon at weddings catching candid shots, photographing the wedding from a different angle, and as the female photographer in the brides room. Outside of Modern Photographics I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking nutritional meals, and getting plenty of exercise. I also enjoy the great outdoors in every season besides winter. Brandon and I live in Saranac with our daughter, Lily, who is 8 and the center of our lives. We also have a wonderful little doggy named Laptop. You will see Lily, Laptop and I enjoying quality walks, bikerides, and rollerblading around town or on the nature trail when the weather is nice. |

 Karen LezanOffice Manager
Hi, I’m Karen, the office manager and Brandon’s right hand girl. You will probably talk with me on the phone a lot or through e-mails, set appointments up with me, maybe proof your pictures, see me at order pick up and more. I try to help Brandon and Emily where ever I can, but I don’t take any pictures; I draw the line there. It’s probably a good thing I don’t, Brandon always picks on my home camera photography skills. When our whole studio decided to get healthy, Brandon got me hooked on running. I try to get them to go to Zumba class with me, but I haven't had too much luck with that. I love my job at Modern Photographics, but I also have a few other jobs. You may see me at Grand Volute Ballrooms running an event, but you will most likely see me around town with husband, Mike and my 2 kids, Jared and Rachel. We like to do a lot of activities in our busy town of Lowell and have fun at parks and going for walks. I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you and your family as well. |

Hi, I'm Kara, album designer extraordinaire for Modern Photographics. I love laying out life stories in picture book form. My goal is to make our clients feel like they are the only ones in the world by designing a custom album highlighting them on their special day. Outside of Modern Photographics, I own and operate my own business doing graphic design. My husband, Allan and two children are a huge part of my life. They support my artistic notions every day. Hi, I’m Casie Thelen, owner of Hairstudio located inside Modern Photographics. I've been a licensed cosmetologist since 1999, and making people feel beautiful is my passion. Growing up, I always wanted to do hair and to be a mom. Today I’m thrilled to be doing both. With a full service salon, and with a husband and four kids, I’m living my purpose every day.
